Entry 25.9

This week’s Professor’s Ponderings looks a little different. Rather than write my thoughts out, I built a visual representation of the many decisions that go into playing each shot you may encounter on the golf course. It doesn’t represent every possibility that you will ever face, but I tried to include as many possibilities as I could come up with over the few hours that I spent constructing this decision tree. You are going to have to scroll up and down, left and right and zoom in and out to be able to follow each pathway. By the time I finished this version, it took 18 sheets of 11”x17” to lay it out. Thankfully, we have a print shop on campus that can handle printing out projects of this size. And this is only version 2. I plan on continuing to add to and refine it to be even more inclusive of all the variables. If you have an idea you think should be added, just let me know and I will see what I can do. I have already received some feedback from Coach Conley which is why this is version 2. If you are on campus, take a look at my bulletin board to get a better look at it and get a better understanding of how complex it is. More importantly realize that this is a visual representation of the mental energy it takes to play golf. No wonder this game is so hard!
